Default Advertising allowed?

Hi, I was wandering if I can advertise in this newsgroup? It's about renting
out a homestay for budget tourists.
Kind regards
Stefanie

Cath, and some others, would say no. Others would say that an occasional,
brief self-plug is not out of order. I submit what browns many people off
are huge files, posted daily or bi-daily (there are two on
rec.travel.budget.backpack who do this and I doubt they get any, or many,
responses for just this reason).

There's a bloke on here who occasionally plugs his homestay in W.A. - we
personally can't stand each other, but I have to admit he has about the
right balance.

This is an unmonitored newsgroup. It isn't commercial, but for my 0.02,
keep it short and not very often and nobody will mind - if you have
answers/contributions/etc. for posters on other topics, that will buy you
some goodwill.

I think that's the key! An occasional reply with your url etc as part of the
signature - no problems imo!

Hi, thank you for your answers.
It's been just an idea, as we used to host 2 Chinese homestay students for a
year each, but due to the lack of business, the languge school is now only
placing students in close vicinity of the school (and we are about 8 kms
away).
Kind regards
Stefanie

Raffi is spot on as usual.
Have a peek at the bottom of some replies to posts. Some people include a
webpage address that one can click on . Some of them are quite interesting
and informative, and I don't find their inclusion obtrusive or unwarrented.

Neither do I, but certain self-appointed moderators of this forum will
find that ANY commercial URL posted even as a sig file at the end of
an informative post will contravene guidelines, and will react
accordingly. Although she has been rather quiet lately, she must only
do it at certain times of the month....

Dave I think it is high time I answered you once and for all.

Firstly, this is not the first time I have said this:
I am not a self appointed moderator of this newsgroup.
I have explained on more than one occasion how it came about that I
resumed posting the Charter/FAQ of this newsgroup.

*You* or anyone else could have done exactly the same.

Now, at the time of the RFD etc, did you bring up anything by way of
advertising whether it be permitted as a casual thing, or accepted as
part of a signature etc?

If not, why not?

Over the years since the adoption of the Charter/FAQ, have you per
Usenet protocol, attempted to have the wording changed?

So there is a Charter/FAQ in effect which has been there since circa
1995. Throughout the years, there has been some rumblings about
advertising but no-one who favours changes, has done nothing about
going about changing it then bitches if it is enforced.

The Charter/FAQ as it stands and which has not been altered in any way
since it's adoption clearly states:

The FAQ states:
ALL advertising is inappropriate and should be directed to the group
rec.travel.marketplace.

The Charter states:
All advertising is inappropriate and should be directed to the group
rec.travel.marketplace.

If you want these changed, then you are welcome to set in motion the
necessary Usenet protocol to have these and any other part of the
Charter/FAQ changed.

I take it that you will be doing so in the immediate future?

The Charter is there for a reason and again, you are more than welcome
to set in motion, any changes you desire.

Your statement, quote:
> Although she has been rather quiet lately, she must only
>do it at certain times of the month....

I expect a public explaination of this comment.

You interpret this to mean that a URL in a .sig is not allowed?

How terminally anal.
