We are stuck with three weeks holidays in August.
One wild idea that crossed my mind was to fly all the way to Australia to go to famous Byron Bay. But ... my wife would want a beach holiday, partly at least. What'd you say, is Byron Bay a beach holiday year round? Other more northernly beaches? We would be first time visitors to Australia. Georg, from Austria |

It's a nice problem to be "stuck" with. Trade you problems! |

why not go another 5 hours drive to the north to the Sunshine Coast you'll
have swimmable beaches there in August "Georg Naggies" <g.naggies@gmx.at> wrote in message news:40438b0b$0$12384$91cee783@newsreader02.highwa y.telekom.at... > We are stuck with three weeks holidays in August. > One wild idea that crossed my mind was to fly all the way to Australia > to go to famous Byron Bay. > But ... my wife would want a beach holiday, partly at least. > What'd you say, is Byron Bay a beach holiday year round? > Other more northernly beaches? In August we are in the middle of winter, but average temperatures are 21c max and 12c min (see http://www.worldclimate.com/cgi-bin/grid.pl?gr=S28E153 and click on Cape Byron Lighthouse). You can check out water temperatures here http://www.mhl.nsw.gov.au/www/real_quick.htmlx or here http://www.realsurf.com/RS_Html/20020107.php3 . Whatever you find, by Austrian standards it's going to be warm! PS When you get here, rent a car and wander the hinterland as well. Just remember to drive on the wrong side of the road :-) I'll have a beer with you when you get here. Bon Voyage. Cheers Alan |

"stuck" in the sense of stuck with August travelling time, which makes the nearer destinations like the Mediterranian uninviting due to heat & high season. cheerio Georg |

Been there many times in July/August. Usually very nice - plenty of
people on the beach and in the water. As you go north it gets progressively warmer, though at some point, around Bundaberg, you run out of good surf because of the reef offshore. Noosa and the Sunshine Coast, just to the north of Brisbane, should be a slightly warmer than Byron and might also be worth considering. You will get surf as far north as Seventeen Seventy.

I would suggest heading up to Noosa. Warmer temps, fantastic places to eat
and great beaches.
