Hi all!
Ive been lurking for ages and now have a reason to post! Im thinking of going overseas for the first time and was thinking about getting to the USA and then Tokyo next Sept//Oct (05) for the Formula 1 racing. I was told it would cost more to book individually than to get an around the world fare. I prefer to fly Qantas (for my points). What will an economy seat cost around that time of year and will I be able to take in LA and Tokyo among other ports? What are the general tips or conditions for such fares. Thanks for advice. |

It's too early for them to advise what they are. I did the round the world route in '98 - Perth to Singapore to Paris to London back to Paris to New York and then used Delta to fly from east to west then Qantas to Sydney and back to Perth. |

When I went last year, the rules were (for a "four continent" ticket": Four legs allowed in each continent, except that six were allowed in the Americas. Must not "go backwards" between continents, but within continents was OK. Positioning flights allowed within you starting country/continent. Twelve months to complete the journey. It's probably more expensive now, but as an example, for approximately AU$2900 (inc. taxes) each paid in Dec 2002, we departed in Mar 2003. Our flight itinerary (the missing bits were done in cars or trains) was: March 11th Coolangatta-Sydney, Qantas Sydney-LAX, Qantas San Jose (California) - Las Vegas, AA Las Vegas-St Louis, AA St Louis-New Orleans, AA Washington DC-NYC, AA (American Eagle) NYC-St Thomas, US Virgin Islands, AA St Thomas-San Juan Puerto Rico, AA San Juan-Madrid, Iberian Granada-Madrid-Nice, Iberian/Air Nostrum Paris-Dublin, Aer Lingus Dublin-Edinburgh, Aer Lingus London-Singapore, Qantas Singapore-Melbourne, BA July 23rd Melbourne-Coolangatta, Qantas We also flew to and from the Grand Canyon from Vegas, but that was a seperate cost. We were entitled to more legs in Asia, such as Bangkok and Hong Kong, but we were getting homesick by that time. And, after all that, the frequent flyer miles from that trip are giving us a free trip to Fiji this year :-) Check it out at http://www.oneworld.com/ and click on your local airline (Qantas?) from the group for price. And no, I don't get a commission. I wish. Hey Qantas - are you lurking? Send me lots of money :-) Remove starch if you want to talk direct. Oh, and yeah, I had fun. Cheers, Alan |
