Default Package fetch/install/uninstall in Mandriva Free 2007?

Have been trying Mandriva Free 2007 and quite like it, but have been
unable to find a package-handling function (e.g. SuSE's YaST, for
fetching, installing, or uninstalling packages.

Where can this be found or obtained?

(One thing I want to do is uninstall the Pan 0.119 that came with
Mandriva, so I can install 0.14.x.)

It's in the Mandriva Control Center. If you run KDE, there should already
be a quick launch button on your taskbar. You can also access it via the
Menu - System - Configuration - Packaging. The command
is /usr/sbin/drakconf.

Make sure you visit http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php
to set up your software repositories.

Cheers.

OK - sorry - I've now found it, somewhat tucked away (compared with YaST).

Apologies....

It's no good - I just can't get on with the 'new' Pan (0.119) - there
are too many features missing or mangled...

Tried again to install Pan 0.14x (using Konqueror and the RPM I used
under SuSe 9.0, but got the failure:
"Could not be installed due to unsatisfied libgnet-2.0.so.0"

Is there a Mandriva way of e.g. linking to some web site to obtain the
missing items?

Well, I found that file on my SuSE drive; it's actually a sym.link to
another file: libgnet-2.0.so.0.0.4, so I copied the latter over to the
Mandriva /usr/lib, and created there a symlink for libgnet-2.0.so.0 and
checked that it did indeed point to the other file.

Asked Konqueror to install the Pan RPM again (RPM on SuSE drive), but it
still fails on "unsatisfied libgnet-2.0.so.0)".

Can anyone shed some light on this, please?

You can never expect an RPM built for one distro to work on another
(although it can happen).

"Seer Of Souls" has pan-0.121-1.SoS.2007.0.i586.rpm for Mandriva 2007.

Go to <http://seerofsouls.com/index.php> - there are instructions for
adding the SoS repositories to your urpmi 'sources' on the "2007 RPMs"
tab, and on the 'Home Page' tab under 'Addmedia Sites' there is a link
'Main Mirror' to the Easy Urpmi instructions for adding 'Main' and
'contrib' sources too, which you should do if you haven't already used
Mandriva's own GUI to 'Configure your computer - Select from where
software packages are downloaded when updating the system - Add'.

There seems not to be a Mandriva 2007 RPM for Pan 0.14.2, even though that
is the latest 'stable' release. So if you are determined to have that
version on your system (and why shouldn't you?!) then you will have to
download the sourve code from <http://pan.rebelbase.com/download/> and
compile and install it yourself. If you need help doing that, a seperate
thread on the subject of 'compiling from source' might be worth starting.
