The Mets need to clean house now. Wright and Church, although they
put up good numbers, get that "deer in headlight" look when the pressure is on and NEVER come through. They have numbers though, along with Delgado, to make a blockbuster trade. First off, trade Wright, Delgado, and Church to St. Louis for Pujols. Then fire Manuel and bring back the fiery Bobby Valentine. Get rid of Razor Shines, and replace him with Lee Mazilli as third base coach. An improved Met team could look like this for 2010: F Martinez LF C Beltran CF N Evans RF A Pujols 1B L Castillo 2B J Reyes SS D Murphy 3B B Schneider C Manager: Bobby Valentine 3rd base coach: Lee Mazilli I am liking this look right now - the look of a team that at least will hit in the clutch, unlike Wright and Church! |

One has to decide if the problem is with Manuel or Minaya. If Manuel, then just switching to a Valentine would produce outstanding change. If it is Minaya, then any manager is going to have trouble with the wrong talent and bad apples. I think it is telling that Rollins opens the game by getting the winning run. Wright gets his big shot with the bases loaded and hits into a DP. Two stars and two different results. This game was important because we could have ridden our ace to mitigate against one of the previous losses. As it was, the Phils swept us into fourth place (being tied with the Braves is as bad as being behind them). Some guys just seem to get er done when it counts. I am not a Manuel fan and would love to personally know the manager of my team (again). OTOH, I suspect that unless this all turns around as folks get healthy and back, that the problem is deeper than just the manager. harlan |

Its silly to think that St Louis would even consider that trade.

Wright is a solid player who is a proven non-clutch performer. Biggest Met problem has been and remains the lack of solid cleanup guy. Delgado is not much of a future. Pujols is not available for what Mets have to offer. |

That trade may have gone smoothly, but now that you told everyone that Wright and Church never come though, St Louis has decided to keep Pujols instead. Thanks a lot for screwing everything up. |
