Thank you for your assistance!

It looks like a joke, but the page with the survey does really exist.

Hi Alfred,

The survey page may exist, any wanker can set up such a survey.

I have contacts out there, and if my experience in tourism is valid, there
ain't an option for a while yet.

If you want to be a tourist out there, check out my "Maps of Iraq" at,
http://users.powernet.co.uk/mkmarina/iraq/iraq.html
but I'd suggest that you give a few months yet.

Cheers,

Pete Loud

Based on the survey questions, I'm inclined to think it's serious.

The government of Afghanistan has started planning for tourism, so why not
Iraq? It's got a rich cultural heritage, many famous historical sites,
hospitable people, and good food. Just that little stability problem to
clear up.

Next-door neighbor Syria, which has all of the above minus the stability
issue, is a truly great place to visit. No reason Iraq couldn't be too in a
few years.

It's already being done. There was a report in the British press a
couple of weeks ago about a tour party that had just returned. Judging
by the comments, what with trigger happy Americans on one side and
bombers on the other, none of them were in a hurry to repeat the
experience.

OTOH, there might be some interest in "Rummyworld" jihad tours..

Because there won't be any substantial tourism, unless the occupation
has ended and the Iraqis are free.

At the moment, any Western looking person is an enemy of Iraq. Not the
best time to be there.

On what do you base this?

Very reputable polling organizations have sampled the population and repeatedly
come up with roughly 80% of the Iraqi people supporting the allied presence and
removal of Saddam.

For the sake of accuracy, it could be said that at the moment any Western
looking person in the central, Sunni dominated, area of the country is subject
to being attacked by members of small, fanatical fringe groups, many of whom
are not even Iraqi.

That may be true, but if the many Western media reports of open
celebrations at attacks on and deaths of American troops are accurate,
they may be getting a fair bit of support, passive and otherwise, from
many ordinary Iraqis. Changing that won't happen overnight, if at all.

In any case, and even without that, it looks too "hot" for most
ordinary Westerners for the forseeable future.
