I just found this:
- Legion of Decency - - Vatican Approves of Harry Potter - - VATICAN CITY (Reuters) -Harry Potter fans, relax. The Vatican - says the kid is all right. The question of whether J.K. - Rowling's books and the films on the boy wizard have a positive - influence came up at a news conference Monday where the Vatican - presented a document on "New Age" spirituality, which contain - elements of the occult. "I don't think that any of us grew up - without the imaginary world of fairies, magicians, angels and - witches," said Father Peter Fleetwood, a Vatican official who - worked on the document. "They are not bad or a banner for - anti-Christian ideology. They help children understand the - difference between good and evil," he said in response to a - reporter's question. - - Michael J. Matt - Editor, The Remnant - - Reprinted from The Remnant - 21170 W. The American schools that ban Potter also NEVER teach evolution. |

However - as our laws allow all faiths - we defend their right to be stupid - which defends our right not to be. 2- Very few schools - and mostly religious ones not controlled by the state - banned Potter - but Evolution is an accepted part of the curricullum in all public schools in the USA - and only Religious schools could not teach it. Yes - some schools have gone to teaching both - but be fair - the end result of 12 years of Public education strongly agrees with evolution. |

The only way to get out of it was by being Jewish or taking Advanced Mathematics as an extra subject. This was just one symptom of a sick, sick country (Apartheid South Africa). So, people shout at the US for falling short of its tremendous potential in education standards, but there are so many worse models. It's just that the US is Top Nation and everyone examines its practices closely. Miranda |

From their point of view, Harry Potter is Satanic, Catholics are Satanic, therefore Catholics like Harry Potter. To not teach evolution, or to teach creationism, is to pave way for a generation where many people can not go on to higher education in the sciences. Is this what the result they want to see? |

It seems some Christians believe:
A, Witchcraft exists. B, Man and dinosaurs co-existed. I don't believe either. If witchcraft works, I want to give it a try. If the universe is only about 6,000 years old, why can we see stars, THOUSANDS of years old, and galaxies and quasars MILLIONS, of years old. |
